Production

1. Website

'The website could follow the website follow a set of layers that change in form or become some how less or more (value). May that be through them deteriorating or through becoming less desirable (gentrification)' - Wireframe 1
  • UX – Function & impact of function. The Users experience.
  • UI – Form, Look and style
As the use scrolled down the page the content would become less visible or would be scattered around the page. The key is that the content is arranged on 'layers' that change in quality. The website could try portray the split decision of two sets of opinions through the changing of aesthetic from a less desirable (deteriorated) aesthetic to a more desirable (whole) aesthetic through the clicking of a button; or through taking a quiz (whether your answer follows a positive or negative viewpoint on the regeneration of the island)  at the start of entering the website and that determining the visual you get.

2. Projection Mapping

'Re-imagining imagery of Kelham Island (or other industrial parks that been gentrified) through a projection onto 'industrial materials' (steel/wood/cloth)' - Wireframe 2

The projection of multiple construction/industrial (from kelham Island) related videos from two separate projectors onto materials found on Kelham Island. The materials (steel and cloth) were vague and obscure in their form, creating an interesting contrast to the straight forward informative video of Kelham. This contrast could be developed in relation to the theme of the glitch portraying the change/regeneration of the island. Adding a sense of ambiguity/unpredictability to the projection would be a key focus for any further developments, as to present the disorientation the change has incurred onto some locals of the island and other industrial areas.

The layering of the shadows from the materials onto the two projections created an interesting visual, as one set of visuals from the projectors would be cut off by the material, while the other visuals would project onto the space where the shadow lie, adding a sense of more depth to the projection.

3. Interactive Installation/projection

The audience changes the material/cut out of material the projection is played through. asking the question is the physical obscuring/distorting the projection?

This 'interactive' installation was more appealing to me as I felt that the visuals portrayed the themes within the brief of  'a glitch presenting the gentrification of industrial areas' with the more exaggerated digital projections - in turn re-imagining the content/industrial themes and offering different connotations of technological advancements etc. and how these have influenced and encouraged change within the island. I would like to develop the inflating/amplifying of the brief/content through the distorting of projections and how they interact with the environment (chosen space - industrial building - pillars); the chosen materials (and their placement - placing materials at different depths can offer different experience); the amount the audience can manipulate the imagery, be that through the changing of materials or the visuals.

The addition of led and neon lighting which both reacted to the audio of the animation(s) adding anither dimension to the projection. The idea that the changes of Kelham could not only be presented through the visuals, but the audio as well allows for the projection/installation to be even more interactive, as the audience can collaborate with the another sensory experience.
