To communicate the industrial/mechanical themes that are present throughout the production of my book; I have set photo locations that compliment this theme and present industrial themes on their own.
Photoshoot 1 - Laser Cutter Grid
The grid metallic background of the laser cutter bed clearly presents the same aesthetic as the industrial/mechanical themed book. But the photos are limited to birds-eye view shots as the bed wasn't long enough to be able to capture the book standing up.
Photoshoot 2 - Metal Chains (Welding Bay)
The chains found in the welding bay were very reminiscent of the type of products that would have been produced in the steel works on Kelham Island. furthermore they communicated the rough/rugged mechanical aesthetic I was approaching with my book.
Photoshoot 3 - Metal Workbench
The workbench background was too similar to the finish of the metal sheets on the book cover; offering little contrast or context to the presentation of the book.
Photoshoot 4 - Photography Suite (white infinity wall)
I was able to capture the clearest representations of the books with this photoshoot, as the white infinity wall allowed me to place the book at angles where I could capture the frame of the whole book. Although, the background offered no context to the books themes, and the lighting was too dull offering little separation/contrast from the book.Photoshoot 5 - Metal Workshop
This photoshoots aesthetic felt more lighthearted than the others, while still capturing the mechanical/industrial themes that are relevant to the book. The gloves and glasses in the background bring context to the industrial aspect, while the grainy wood workbench offers that rough aesthetic.
