• Images of your development
• Bullet points that briefly explain: your ideas and reasons; thoughts about what you will do next.
• Questions - what you want feedback on, specific questions you have.
Poster - 'Reactionary poster'
- Q - how people are influenced by leading questions/imagery?
- How can my poster influence other posters around it?
- The imagery of cigarettes isn't the focus this poster
- A poster that through its vague imagery and it's connotations, aims to get the reader to build their own interpretation of what the poster is 'promoting'
- In context - how repetition persuades/influences people (repeated/layered images of 'branded' cigarettes).
- Notes - Most were drawn to the theme of branding, which is understandable as that is the focal point of the image (Nike tick)
Dead-End
Based on a lack of inspiration/running into dead-end while trying to create work during the COVID-19 lockdown and its limitations
Zoom Crit
- VR gallery - virtual space to promote work
- website to upload work (ID, ItsNiceThat)
- is advertising persuasive or manipulative (how can you use those techniques to promote other peoples work)
- Mcdonalds advert different advertising in different countries - very different approach (Phuket) - could reverse the purpose of promotion
3d Models
Looking into presenting 3d modeling as a substitute for VR, as my laptop can't open these. Presenting all the models found, in a sort of gallery/landscape could be an appropriate media to use. This would allow the user to guide themselves through the 'landscape' to view artists' work.
Q - Promotion and Presentation, does influence fall into just three categories; Location Design principles and distribution?
I still want this question/issue I'm trying to solve, to revolve around the promotion of artists' work. But given the abundance of online resources (websites, Instagram) we can use to view artists' work - want the question to focus more on the 'why' and 'how' techniques influence an audience.
- Location (cultural) - audience
- Design principles (content) - What media/platform
- Distribution (impactful timing) - when and how much
While I acknowledge there'.s a plethora of factors that impact how we are influenced, I want to question whether the design communities influence and its means of promotion can be boiled down to these three simple criteria.
Distribution
- poster series
- 'guerilla approach
- placards, banners or set of badges
Location
- trends within local communities
- Embracing/accepting culture
Design Principles
- Balance. Balance lends stability and structure to an overall design
- Proximity
- Alignment
- Visual Hierarchy
- Repetition
- Contrast
- Colour
- Negative Space
Idea 1 - Poster (mass distribution)
Typeface (paper)
3D Model (online presence)
Questionsssss
- With the focus of the project being on promoting i.e. art, or small business; and the focus on design principles and 'how' and 'why' they influence an audience. should my designs work around current issues (i.e. COVID-19) or should I keep it as indifferent as possible?
- regarding the distribution and aspect of the question - I won't be able to print these posters but want to keep the poster format. should I make a website that solely promotes business posters? (any other suggestions)
- regarding the location aspect to the question - before lockdown, city/town(s) centers would have been the location to gain the most coverage, but now with everyone locked in at home - apps like Instagram are where the most impact can be made. how could I adapt the quite literal (arrows) poster to an online format?
