Q - Promotion and Presentation, does influence fall into just three categories; Location Design principles and distribution?

I still want this question/issue I'm trying to solve, to revolve around the promotion of artists' work. But given the abundance of online resources (websites, Instagram) we can use to view artists' work - want the question to focus more on the 'why' and 'how' techniques influence an audience.
  • Location (cultural) - audience
  • Design principles (content) - What media/platform
  • Distribution (impactful timing) - when and how much
While I acknowledge there'.s a plethora of factors that impact how we are influenced, I want to question whether the design communities influence and its means of promotion can be boiled down to these three simple criteria.
  1. With the focus of the project being on promoting i.e. art, or small business; and the focus on design principles and 'how' and 'why' they influence an audience. should my designs work around current issues (i.e. COVID-19) or should I keep it as indifferent as possible?
  2. regarding the distribution and aspect of the question - I won't be able to print these posters but want to keep the poster format. should I make a website that solely promotes business posters? (any other suggestions)
  3. regarding the location aspect to the question - before lockdown, city/town(s) centers would have been the location to gain the most coverage, but now with everyone locked in at home -  apps like Instagram are where the most impact can be made. how could I adapt the quite literal (arrows) poster to an online format?
  • mail - posters. - distribution
  • focus on just one - distribution (how people connect)
  • concrete confinement - publication on concrete poetry - how people are working together - https://bbdb.it/confinement/?fbclid=IwAR03u7xwPidWWty56sDi3b2CIUKkFLD-6F2576yd4Fg_NIHqHUneoF6O3mg
  • Patrick Thomas open collab - responding to a theme - people responding to image + type spec
  • hyperlinks (arrows) - start in one place and keep get taking t other places (distribution/distraction) - my work - click on it - takes you to the original piece inspired by or something that's interesting related to it
  • How are you drawn to certain areas?
  • 'Look At That' - Web

Crit PDF - Promotion and Presentation, does influence fall into just three categories; Location and Design principles?

Include:
• Images of your development
• Bullet points that briefly explain: your ideas and reasons; thoughts about what you will do next.
• Questions - what you want feedback on, specific questions you have.

Poster - 'Reactionary poster'

  • Q - how people are influenced by leading questions/imagery?
  • How can my poster influence other posters around it?
  • The imagery of cigarettes isn't the focus this poster
  • A poster that through its vague imagery and it's connotations, aims to get the reader to build their own interpretation of what the poster is 'promoting'

  • In context - how repetition persuades/influences people (repeated/layered images of 'branded' cigarettes).

  • Notes - Most were drawn to the theme of branding, which is understandable as that is the focal point of the image (Nike tick)

Dead-End

Based on a lack of inspiration/running into dead-end while trying to create work during the COVID-19 lockdown and its limitations

Zoom Crit

  • VR gallery - virtual space to promote work
  • website to upload work (ID, ItsNiceThat)
  • is advertising persuasive or manipulative (how can you use those techniques to promote other peoples work)
  • Mcdonalds advert different advertising in different countries - very different approach (Phuket)  - could reverse the purpose of promotion

3d Models

Looking into presenting 3d modeling as a substitute for VR, as my laptop can't open these. Presenting all the models found, in a sort of gallery/landscape could be an appropriate media to use. This would allow the user to guide themselves through the 'landscape' to view artists' work.

Distribution
  • poster series
  • 'guerilla approach
  • placards, banners or set of badges
Location

  • trends within local communities
  • Embracing/accepting culture

Design Principles

  • Balance. Balance lends stability and structure to an overall design
  • Proximity
  • Alignment
  • Visual Hierarchy
  • Repetition
  • Contrast
  • Colour
  • Negative Space

Web XR

Looking into virtual reality modeling online. I'd like to experiment with this media as a form of presenting/promoting other people's work, but neither my phone nor laptop is compatible with the required VR functions.

https://immersiveweb.dev/

"The WebXR Device API provides access to input (pose information from headset and controllers) and output (hardware display) capabilities commonly associated with Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) devices. It allows you to develop and host VR and AR experiences on the web."

What You Don't Know
Jono & Mr. Doob
"Dive into the creative process of avant-pop artist Matthew Dear from his new single of the same name. Floating above you is a magic eight-ball reciting lyrics. In the distance, planetary objects orbit around you to the beat. And directly ahead is an elastic donut that bounces, bulges, and twists to the complex melodies."

2D Designs

I will need to find other forms of presenting other artwork (2D), but in a format that can be accessed online.  How could this best present that format??

Promoting other peoples work

  • VR gallery - virtual space to promote work
  • website to upload work (ID, ItsNiceThat)
  • is advertising persuasive or manipulative (look at the techniques - how can you use those techniques to promote other peoples work)
  • TED talks - techniques used in public speaking and advertising

Logos Ethos Pathos

Logos - the key is to find a point where you can both 'build' upon
Ethos - What are the ingredients that are making them listen to you. To understand your motive
(1st part - credibility) (2nd part - How you act)
Pathos - 2 ways we connect (1st - story) (2nd - feeling it intensely

  • how you present the work influences how people perceive the message - or where it's presented (cultures in different countries)
  • Mcdonalds advert different advertising in different countries - very different approach
